Deaglan de Breadun is one of Irelands most experienced and expert political journalists, and was chief correspondent in The Irish Times Belfast bureau during the run-up to the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. He is the author of a comprehensive account of the peace process, The Far side of Revenge: Making Peace in Northern Ireland (Collins Press, 2001 and 2008) and a collection of short stories in Irish entitled Sceallóga (Chips) published by Comhar Teo. His latest book, about the recent history of Sinn Fein, is Power Play: The Rise of Modern Sinn Fein.
De Breadun says: Writing a book is hard work, but a good reception on publication makes it all worthwhile. Sitting there, tapping away at the keyboard of my laptop generated a fair amount of strain for the eyes and lower back, but it was comforting to know that there was so much interest in the topic: a party which, whether we like it or not, will have a major say in the future of the island of Ireland.
