International Women’s Day Poetry Series | Nightmare by Rachel Sobylya
Nightmare
By Rachel Sobylya
A crustacean carousel spins
and I cannot dismount a hideous lobster
and mother has abandoned me
and I am screaming.
I wake alone and it is the first time since he left
and I had forgotten he left
and I remember he left
and I am screaming.
My students follow methods to pick apart poems
and they become meaningless but they must do this to pass a test
and I have allowed this madness to fester in my class
and I am screaming.
Submissions are open for all HeadStuff poetry categories, including Poem of The Week (Every Friday), Unbound (longer sequence of poems from a single poet), and New Voices (submissions from poets under the age of 30.)
