SINISTER SCREENINGS AT THE BRAM STOKER FESTIVAL

I’m going to be controversial. Horror movies are deadly. Few things are as enjoyable as sitting in a dark room with a bunch of like minded strangers having the shit scared out of you. Throw in the knowledge that you’re relatively safe (except from boring stuff like cancer, depression or penury) and some overpriced snacks and you’re onto a winner. Maltesers would be my pick.

Halloween provides as good an excuse as any to indulge in this carry on. This year, loads of Dublin based film screenings have been bunched together as part of ‘The Bram Stoker Festival’. It runs from Friday 24th to Monday 27th October.

Standouts include ‘The Lost Boys‘ in meeting house square on Oct 26th followed by a free concert movie of The Cure playing in the French countryside (obviously) and a screening of ‘The Cabinet of Dr Caligari‘ with a live score by 3epkano in Christchurch cathedral on the 24th.

The IFI are also running the annual Horrorthon from the 23rd to the 27th, featuring scary movies both Irish and international.

All of these things offer lots of ways of getting scared by made up things. Also, there’ll be snacks. Happy Halloween to us all.
