Oh it’s heated, it’s near the end, but not quite the end. It’s like one hour into Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King when you think it’s over but actually there’s like 6 hours of movie left. We have entered the Semi Final of the Lacomic Cup! The 4 stories are here for you to enjoy and vote on. In this round, the writers who won their matches in Round 3 (winning €400 each in the process), had to write a new story between 250 and 300 words, this time the story had to include the word ‘Transgloft” (they had to come up with what it meant).
The judge for this round is writer of Father Ted and Toast of London, Arthur Mathews.
The Lacomic Cup is sponsored by Sober Lane.
Round 3 was judged by Jarlath Regan and he had this to say about the judging process:
The standard was very high and often it was hard to pick a winner. I was amazed by the punchy clarity across the board and there were some inspired moments.
The Audience Choice Award was won by Layla Hehir for her story ‘Work Related Stress’. A hamper of books worth over €100 from Kennys.ie is on its way to her right now. The Voter’s prize was won by reader Megean O’Neill.
The finalists who didn’t make it through to Round 3, but who are all great, and did very well to get this far are:
Louise Bunyan – ‘Sugardaddy’
Gearoid Kelleher – ‘Surprise!’
Layla Hehir – ‘Work Related Stress’
Cian McGarrigle – ‘What Time’s Checkout’
