Tittererer’s Digest |66| feat. Cat Laughs

Hello! How are you? It was a quiet couple of months around here while I was getting Juvenalia up and running but we’ve had loads of stuff in the ol’ humour section in the last week or so. Give it a read. And listen to Juvenalia, we’ve had some amazing guests so far and people seem to like it so you might too. Anyway, this week, we have the Kilkenny Cat Laughs, Forbidden Fruit, and the usual sketches and bits.

The Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival

I’ve been to the Cat Laughs twice and I loved it. You can’t throw a stick without hitting a comedian and I threw a lot of sticks around Kilkenny. There’s so much comedy happening there. Plus the first time I met comedy legend and HeadStuff columnist Tara Flynn in real life was at The Cat Laughs so it’s just generally a nice place to be. You don’t care about that though, you want to know who’s performing. Well, I’m going to tell you.

Are you ready, cos here they all are:

David O’Doherty, Al Porter, Deirdre O’Kane, Barry Murphy, Andrew Maxwell, PJ Gallagher, Bernard O’Shea, Jason Byrne, Karl Spain,  Neil Delamere, Sean Hughes, Foil Arms & Hog, Eleanor Tiernan, Eric Lalor, Chris Kent, Waterford Whispers News, Joanne McNally. Maeve Higgins, Shazia Mirza, Adam Hess, Bec Hill, Nish Kumar, Igor Meerson, Tiff Stevenson, Adam Hills, Jason Manford, Reginald D. Hunter, Glen Wool, Rich Hall, and Dom Irrera.

Looking at that list I realise that I’ve seen nearly all of them live. They’re all pretty great really and I wouldn’t deign to think my opinion about who to see would be worth anything.

And of course there are the Wildcats, which is an amazing chance to see loads of up and coming comedians in a high pressure environment over the course of an hour. These comedians are as follows:

Suzie Houlihan, Alison Spittle, Sean Nolan, Keith Fox, Cornelius Patrick O’Sullivan, George Fox, Andrew Ryan, Gerry McBride, Danny O’Brien, Steve Bennett, Hugh Cooney, Niamh Marron, David Reilly, and Paul Marsh, Grainne McKeever, Emman Idama, Totally Wired, Andrea Farrell, Jim Elliott, Joe Dowling, Eve Darcy, Aideen McQueen, Emma Doran.

So many HeadStuff faves in the Wildcats this year! Several of whom could fit quite comfortably into the main lineup in this humble idiot’s opinion.

Look, just go to the Cat Laughs website and marvel at all the wonderful combinations of comedians you can watch and maybe I’ll see you there

Forbidden Fruit

Also this weekend, there’s the Forbidden Fruit festival which has a very strong comedy lineup. Here’s a copy/pasted list of who’s performing:

ANDREW STANLEY MC – JARLATH REGAN – JOE ROONEY – PATRICK MCDONNELL – KEVIN MCGAHERN – EDWIN SAMMON – GEAROID FARRELLY – ALISON SPITTLE – JJ WHITEHEAD – JIM ELLIOT – EMMAN IDAMA – STEVE BENNETT – RONAN GRACE – RYAN CULLEN – PAUL MARSH – GRAINNE MCKEEVER – COLIN CHADWICK

Pretty good right? Even more HeadStuff faves plus actual Headstuff Podcast Network hosts Gearoid Farrelly and Alison Spittle. Alison is doing the Cat Laughs as well but I wanted to mention her here because she’s going to be recording an episode of The Alison Spittle Show while she’s there! How exciting. She won’t tell me who her guests are so you’ll just have to wander over if you’re at Forbidden Fruit and find out.
