Tittererer’s Digest #7 (feat. Charlie Brooker)

Happy new year, my lovies. Hope you had a good one. I feel like this may be the most important Tittererer’s Digest of the year. A lot of you will be heading back to work today and will be in dire need of some chuckles this week. With that grim responsibility weighing heavily on my shoulders, here’s the funny I could wrangle this week.

Clip of the Week

The new year’s period means many things to many people. To me though, it means a new yearly Wipe from Charlie Brooker. In case you missed it this year, some helpful son of a gun has uploaded the entire hour long show to YouTube. 2014 was a pretty darn hectic year with lots of shit going down. Most of it, it seems, fairly depressing. So what better man to round it up than the brilliant Mr. Brooker (along with Philomena Cunk and Barry Shitpeas of course). So here’s your (extended) clip of the week, 2014 Wipe.

Gig of the Week

This week’s gig of choice is The Peanut Gallery. It’s a brand new night of mild to extremely off-beat comedy and off-comedy, run by Tom Walsh, Edwin Sammon and Dick Walsh. Tom’s recent (brilliant) short Bayside may give you a window into his worrying frame of mind and thusly may give you a few clues as to what you can expect from this night. Acts on the night include Mark Baldwin, Moira Brady, Kevin McGahern and James Moran. Seriously, if you have any interest in alternative comedy, I can’t recommend this show enough to you. It’s on in the Thomas House on Thomas Street, this Wednesday January 6th at 8pm.

On TV This Week

Series 2 of the wonderful Count Arthur Strong begins this week and the show is moving from BBC TWO to BBC ONE. This is definitely a show well up to the challenge of stepping up to the main channel. It’s warm and inclusive without having to trade in on genuine laughs. Steve Delaney and Graham Linehan’s collaboration continues tomorrow, Tuesday January 5th at on BBC ONE at 10.35pm. To get you in the mood, here’s one of my favourite Count Arthur clips from his live shows.

In Cinemas This Week

It’s all about Birdman in the cinemas this week. I haven’t seen it yet, so I can’t tell you much more than I’m sure you already know – which is that it looks brilliant and that you’re very excited to see it. It’s on pretty much everywhere, pretty much all the time. Let’s watch the trailer one more time and then meet back here in a week to talk it over once we’ve all watched it. OK?

That’s it for this week. I hope you guys aren’t too bummed about getting back to reality. Have a tolerable week and I’ll see you back here in seven days time.
