Tittererer’s Digest |85| feat. When Sufjan Met Drake

Hello there, It’s me, Alan. As you may have heard. I’m not going to be HeadStuff’s Humour editor for much longer. Basically as soon as the new person says yes I’ll vanish in a puff of smoke. What I’m saying is this is probably my last Tittererer’s Digest. We’ve had some good titters didn’t we? Ah yes. I’m gonna keep it professional and act like this is a normal Tittererer’s Digest and save the tears and thank yous for Twitter. So what do I have for you? I have Aubrey & Sufjan, Hannah Berry George, Awful Gays, Peter McGann, Dangerfarm, and other things also. Let’s get started.

1. When Sufjan Met Drake

Did you know that Mallory Ortberg has a TinyLetter? A lot of people don’t. It’s called The Shatner Chatner and it’s very good. Anyway, in this week’s newsletter she linked to a beautiful and perfect precious endeavour by Daniel Kolitz and Riveyoncé Cuoknowles. A tumblr series imagining that Drake and Sufjan Stevens are partners. I know right? Perfect. There are thirty-two (32!) episodes already so just go and luxuriate in it right here.

2. Awful Gays

Awful Gays is a new Irish web series created by Mark Keane and starring Colm Kenny-Vaughan and Stephen Ryan. It’s made by a small team, “many of whom are gay”. It’s about a gay couple who are awful to people. The first episode was released last week and episode two is out today! It’s v good.

The main thing I’ve learned from doing approximately sixty of these Tittererer’s Digests is that there’s so much comedy talent in Ireland that you just never see on TV. But they’re out there doing it for themselves like Awful Gays and the whole Firehouse scene and Long Dark Twenties and many many more. Yiz are all great.

3. The Lawless Mind

Speaking of the Firehouse Film Contest. This won the Technical Award at the most recent night. It’s written by Seán Clancy and Peter McGann and directed by Seán Clancy. It stars Peter McGann, John Morton, John Doran, and Aoife Spratt. It’s about a washed-up celeb who decides he’s a mental health expert. I don’t know where they got the idea for it.

4. Hannah Berry George

Hannah Berry George sent an email to [email protected] that basically said “Hello, you might like my comedy videos”. So I watched some and she was right, I did like them. You’ll probably like them too, it’s the circle of life, and it <unintelligible> us all.

It’s almost like Stephanie Koenig sensed that I was writing what is potentially my final Tittererer’s Digest because just two hours ago she “dropped” the final episode of STUPID IDIOTS which is one of my favourite things in the world. Stephanie Koenig and Brian Jordan Alvarez you guys, the dream team.

6. Dawn Lazarus

Ok, I know I just said that STUPID IDIOTS is one of my favourite things in the world but Dawn Lazarus is also one of my favourite things in the world. How did Vanessa Bayer learn those lines? HOWWWWWWWW?

7. Exchangers

And finally, there’s this. I reckon if you went back through all my Tittererer’s Digests you’d find at least one of Dangerfarm, Donnacha O’Brien, Hannah Mamalis, Conor O’Toole, or Heber Hanly in every one so it’s fitting that this last video has all of them. It’s very, very funny. As you’d expect.

Ok, that’s it so. Bye.

Actually, can I just say that writing about comedy is very very difficult and people who do it properly i.e. not like me, are very impressive. Nevertheless, I’ve loved getting to share so much great comedy with you all and I hope you enjoyed it too.

ok for reals bye now.
