THE PLAYLIST #7 | Summer Squall

Welcome to THE PLAYLIST, where we pick a theme and, er, make a playlist around it. Sometimes you might get an essay, other times you might get just one sentence as a precursor to the laser-focused audio delights that await below. Keith Mannion of ace electronica outfit Slow Place Like Home is here to soundtrack a typical summer in the Emerald Isle…

When camped by the beach and the Irish summer plays its wild card as usual, the storm takes the evening hostage. Anything breaches the plans and the list has as many mood swings, as the calamity that takes fold.

So from Dan Deacon (pictured above in that fetching horse jumper) and his ‘Feel the Lightning’ to Arthur Russell, the list contorts with a fitting unease. Orchestra of Spheres bring their chaos to the table and Juliana Barwick supplements the uneasiness with her beautiful subtle nuances. Mike Simonetti‘s new project Pale Blue sooth the strands and bring us back to the tent before Icebreaker and Manual find us content in our skin again. After all, what’s a trip to the beaches of the North West without its wonderment?
