Fair Game #19 | LGFA All Ireland Finals Live Show

The LGFA All Ireland Final took place in Croke Park on Sunday 24th September – a day that we now know to be a history-making, record-breaking, landmark one for women’s sport in Ireland.

It was the first time that Dublin and Mayo had met in an All Ireland final since 2003 – that was indeed the last time Mayo lifted the Brendan Martin; with Dublin having to wait until 2010 for their first title. Both teams had experienced heartbreaking near-misses in the meantime, but with Cork’s reign of terror ended in the semi-finals it was a sure thing that we’d have new champions by the end of it.

The level of coverage the match received in the build-up was like nothing we’ve ever seen before for a women’s sporting event in Ireland – and will undeniably have a lasting effect on football in the bigger picture.

In a special live episode of FAIR GAME at Dublin Podcast Festival on the morning of the big match, we were joined are All Ireland champion, All Star, all-round Mayo legend CLAIRE O’HARA, Dublin’s 2010 All Ireland winning captain and All Star midfielder DENISE MASTERSON and the one-woman football encyclopaedia that is The42.ie’s EMMA DUFFY to talk through it all… and make predictions as to the outcome!
