NO ENCORE #001 | Overhead, The Albatross

HeadStuff music editor Dave Hanratty is joined by co-hosts Craig Fitzpatrick of Newstalk and Colm O’Regan of Hot Press magazine for some music-related chatter before the studio is invaded by Joe Panama and Stevie Darragh of the mighty Overhead, The Albatross.

Following years of anticipation on behalf of fans and admirable patience on behalf of the band, OTA will finally release debut album Learning To Growl on Friday May 13. Yes, Friday the 13th. We talk to Joe and Stevie about the long build-up, how it feels to at last bring their first record into the world, why there was mystery surrounding the name of their new single (which plays out the episode, so listen out for that) and what went through their minds when a power failure forced them to abandon their last headline show in The Workman’s Club in December.

We also find time to assess actor Henry Cavill’s opulent lifestyle and call out some questionable Irish websites.

ACT ONE: The lads talk Gene Simmons and debate the health of rock and rap, look back at The Strokes’ Is This It as it prepares to turn 15, The Weeknd dropping out of Rihanna’s tour, recent Bond themes, the insanity of Die Another Day and Kanye West.

ACT TWO [19:00]: Joe Panama and Stevie Darragh of Overhead, The Albatross invade the studio to discuss power failures, new single ‘Indie Rose’, their forthcoming debut album Learning To Growl and more besides.

ACT THREE [58:30] We stop grilling the lads but they hang around to talk Joe’s popularity on Twitter, we call out a popular Irish website or two and reveal why you don’t want Colm to be the best man at your wedding.
