NO ENCORE #016 | RED LETTER DAVE

It’s a day of joy and celebration in the NO ENCORE studio as colleagues and friends gather to honour the birthday of humble host Dave Hanratty. As such, it’s a pretty ramshackle affair as our merry trio are joined by the returning Zara Hedderman and the infamously “craven and gutless” Vinny Casey of Overhead, The Albatross fame. 15 episodes in the making, that.

So yeah, a rather off-the-rails episode but a very fun one nonetheless, in which this famous five discuss Beyoncé’s trip to Dublin, Dave’s difficult interview with Amanda Palmer, the excellent new Róisín Murphy album and much more.

ACT ONE: Birthday shenanigans make way for Colm’s review of Beyoncé at Croke Park and Vinny teases his Dave impression.

ACT TWO (14.45): A scattering of already-out-of-date news including the possibility of Azealia Banks joining Celebrity Big Brother and Frank Ocean possibly writing a novel Oh, and some thoughts on the new Ghostbusters movie.

ACT THREE (26:30): Dave tells his Amanda Palmer story.

ACT FOUR (33:00): Back to news after that dramatic tangent. Plus some talk on vinyl and the magic of the record store.

ACT FIVE (44:00): SONGS OF THE WEEK. Take your pick from Lisa Hannigan, James Vincent McMorrow, Funeral Suits, Cathy Davey, Wild Beasts and Crystal Castles.

ACT SIX (1:15:30): ALBUM OF THE WEEK. Let’s get down and dirty with Róisín Murphy’s latest avant-garde offering; Take Her Up To Monto.

ACT SEVEN (1:38:30): Vinny finally delivers on his Dave impression. It’s uncanny.

EXIT MUSIC: Sia – ‘Waving Goodbye’
