NO ENCORE #023 | Obama and the Dead Heads

Greetings.

NO ENCORE returns minus one Colm O’Regan who was busy preparing for Electric Picnic at time of recording but luckily Dave Hanratty and Craig Fitzpatrick are joined by George Morahan and thus don’t get bored of one another/eventually resort to violence. Colm is a calming and important presence, you see.

But fret not! The usual shenanigans are in place this week as the lads tackle seriously important news in the world of music, run the rule over a clutch of new songs and give the verdict on the latest full-length work from one James Vincent McMorrow.

ACT ONE: The MTV Video Music Awards – should you care? Is Beyoncé all of the things? Has Kanye West jumped the shark? Is James Corden the worst human? Are fans of the Grateful Dead hard done by? All of these questions answered for YOU, listener.

ACT TWO (26:40): It’s the SONGS OF THE WEEK section. Bon Iver, HEALTH, Vince Staples, Nick Cave and Devendra Barnhart all duke it out for the love of the judges.

ACT THREE (47:20): James Vincent McMorrow is back with his most personal effort to date, but does We Move match the courage of his convictions?
