Dublin Podcast Festival 2019: From Comedy to Crime, Music to Mental Health
Covering a wide range of topics across many genres this year, Dublin Podcast Festival 2019 brings you the best podcasts in fields as diverse as comedy, culture, crime, music, politics, mental health, and lots more.
HeadStuff and Aiken Promotions have today revealed a second round of live podcasts across multiple venues this November.
Kicking things off is the Irish Music Industry Podcast (Lost Lane, 8th Nov). Launched in 2018, the podcast has become essential listening for anyone who makes music, anyone who makes a living from music, and anyone who’s interested in what happens around music. The live show will have a panel of three guests – musicians and industry professionals – dissecting the sector, sharing their war stories, and playing some live music before and after the conversations.
The Podcast Studios: A New Venue for Live Shows
For the first time ever, the HeadStuff Podcast Network opens its doors to podcast listeners when they host an array of local podcasts in their new studio venue, The Podcast Studios, on Magennis Place in the heart of the city.
Performing here are native favourites, from the hilarious improvised phone-in show Phoning It In, to chats about anything and everything 90s-related, in Up to 90.
Also on the bill are Bandwagons, where Bríd and Fionnuala discuss all the latest pop culture trends, and The Alison Spittle Show, featuring the finest Irish chin wags. You can also hear some top notch Irish storytelling in Fireside and the hugely popular Double Love, a hilarious and nostalgic ode to Sweet Valley High!
And, for one night only, the podcasts Words To That Effect and Shedunnit come together to present a joint tale of intrigue, murder, and mystery. Caroline Crampton’s award-winning Shedunnit is a storytelling podcast that unravels the mysteries behind classic detective stories by the likes of Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers.
Conor Reid’s Words To That Effect explores the fiction that shapes popular culture, from the Victorian past to utopian futures, dinosaurs to detectives, zombies to mummies. The show uncovers the intriguing places where fiction, history, science, and popular culture intersect and inspire.

Those Conspiracy Guys are back this year, due to popular demand. This time, they will host their show at The Sugar Club (13th Nov). Join us in The Grand Social (17th Nov) for a double headliner with The Irish Passport + Motherfoclóir. Behind the wall of grammar homework lies the amazing world of the Irish language, and Darach O’Séaghdha (that @theirishfor guy) wants to take you there. With a crack team of the internet’s soundest Irish speakers, Motherfoclóir explores the vibrant language of Ireland.
The Irish Passport is a podcast about the culture, history and politics of Ireland, by journalist Naomi O’Leary and lecturer Tim Mc Inerney. This podcast cleverly ties current events to the history and culture that explain them. It’s your passport to Ireland.
With Where is my Mind? musician and mental health activist Niall Breslin will make his Podcast Festival debut on 18th November at The Sugar Club. The six-part podcast series guides listeners on how to navigate the manic world they find themselves in today.
Also in the Sugar Club (21st Nov) Jarlath Regan leads a one-off night of discussion with a panel of guests in a double whammy with both An Irishman Abroad and Men Behaving Better. An Irishman Abroad has set the standard for Irish interview-based podcasts since its creation in 2013. Previous guests include Gabriel Byrne, Sir Bob Geldof, Sharon Horgan, Boy George and many more. The wildly popular and timely Men Behaving Better series will sit for a discussion on the changing character, roles and behaviours of Irish men today in Ireland and beyond.
Politics and Economics…with a Side of Comedy
If politics is your thing, we have you covered! A double bill in The Workman’s Club (22nd Nov) will see Inside Politics: The Irish Times Politics Podcast join the hit Irish show What Am Politics?
With Brexit prominently highlighted in the news, the Inside Politics podcasters will scrutinise the driving forces in today’s political realm and weigh up the possible outcomes.
