Welcome back to HeadStuff’s Podcast News Roundup, your go-to place for podcast news and recommendations. This week’s roundup looks at the extended deadline for the Irish Podcast Awards 2022, Blindboy Podcast‘s free show, and more!

Extended deadline for the Irish Podcast Awards 2022

The Irish Podcast Awards has extended its entry deadline to Monday 23rd May at midday. The original deadline, which was originally Friday 13th May, was extended after a high number of podcasters got in touch asking for more time to get their submissions in.

The Irish Podcast Awards are open to all Irish podcasters with a large number of categories to submit to. The application includes a reel of clips from your show, as well as a short description.

Matt Deegan from the Irish Podcast Awards said, “In the first year we want to make sure that every podcaster has had the chance to enter. By extending the deadline independent creators, businesses, non-profits and publishers have the time to get their entry in and shout about the great work that they’re doing”.

Batman Unburied beats Joe Rogan as Spotify’s most popular podcast

The Joe Rogan Experience has frequently topped Spotify’s most popular podcast list since becoming Spotify exclusive in December 2020. However, according to Spotify’s The Podcast Charts, a brand new original podcast series by DC, Batman Unburied, has surpassed Joe Rogan as Spotify’s most popular podcast.

Batman Unburied released its first two episodes on May 3rd. The podcast is a story-driven series featuring a brand new Batman story with a twist:

“A serial killer known as The Harvester terrorizes Gotham City, but Batman is not coming to the rescue. In fact, Bruce Wayne has no memory of being the Caped Crusader at all. Instead, Bruce is a forensic pathologist, performing the autopsy on the latest victim when he’s attacked by the killer himself. As Bruce’s obsession with the Harvester consumes him, Dr. Thomas Wayne, head of Gotham City Hospital, orders his son to take medical leave and seek treatment from an unusual psychologist, Dr. Hunter. With Batman missing in action, Detective Barbara Gordon is left with no other choice but to seek help from Gotham’s second smartest detective: The Riddler. “

The podcast is created by David S. Goyer, an American writer and filmmaker well known for writing superhero screenplays including several other Batman stories such as The Dark Knight Trilogy and Batman v Superman.

The series features the voice talents of Winston Duke as Bruce Wayne, Hasan Minhaj and Gina Rodriguez.
