Podcast Review | Real Life Ghost Stories – Chilling Tales

It’s that time of year where we go out of our way to get scared, curling up late at night with the lights turned off, thinking a little too long and hard about all the things that go bump in the night. For some reason, each Halloween we do whatever we can to try to scare the bejaysus out of ourselves in the lead up to October 31. As someone who is not at all a fan of horror movies but adore stories, I often turn to podcasts to get into the Halloween spirit.

Real Life Ghost Stories is a podcast which dedicates itself to real life paranormal experiences and urges fans of the show to submit their own chilling stories for the hosts to feature. The spookier, the better! Whether it’s ghost stories, hauntings or even aliens, they have an endless stream of terrifying stories to keep us entertained, and appropriately spooked.

Starting back in 2018, there are plenty of episodes to sink your teeth into. Each episode usually lasts around a half an hour, which lends itself well to the nature of the stories being told within the series. Together, hosts Emma and Dan get together to share listeners’ ghost stories and to discuss what it is about these stories which makes them so uncomfortable.

Of course, they put a particular emphasis on the Halloween season, reading out a series of ghost stories every day on their all-important 31 days of terror, starting on October 1st. Now the countdown to Halloween is well underway, making this the perfect podcast to listen to over the coming days.

But don’t worry! The podcast releases regular episodes throughout the year, so no matter the season, you can get your dose of real-life ghost stories whenever you feel like it. Whether it’s someone’s experience with hallucinations or a mysterious murder, this podcast covers it all.

The hosts even take on the twelve days of Christmas. because even the merriest and most festive season of all should have some uncanny, chilling stories to keep us on our toes.

A standout episode for me is episode 139 The Tower of London, telling the story of Edward and Richard and the mysterious disappearance of the two young boys who were brought to the tower for protection, never to be seen alive again, doubtlessly succumbing to the jealously and fear within their own family.

Real Life Ghosts Stories is the perfect podcast for those of us who often fall down the rabbit hole of late-night Wikipedia searches, reading up on mysterious disappearances and different serial killers throughout the ages.  Because who needs sleep, right?

If you are looking for some other podcasts to get you into the spooky spirit, why not try out Sexy Beasts? A podcast hosted by Tony Cantwell and Marc Jago. Each week, the boys explore the menagerie of the unexplained, discuss and compare the flaws and merits of creatures from all across the cyptid spectrum.
