Episode 13 – Anderson

Anderson is a singer-songwriter from Dublin. You may have seen him in his viral video where he shows the place that he built his own studio (literally with bricks and cement and stuff), recorded his entire debut album, ‘Patterns’, on his own, and then went door to door around Dublin selling it. It’s a lovely video and a beautiful, brilliant album.

In this episode of The HeadStuff Podcast Alan and Conor talk to Anderson about his influences, how he got into music, the album, the video, how it’s all going for him now. There’s also some good stuff about creativity, songwriting, constructive criticism and perseverance/confidence. Oh, we also talk Blur versus Oasis, Noel Gallagher versus Kurt Cobain, and how dying is useful if you’re a brilliant young musician.

Alan Bennett was a stand-up comedian for a while and during that time he toured with David O'Doherty and Maeve Higgins and did well in some competitions and co-ran Schnitzel Comedy Club. Then he started writing fiction and it has been published in several literary magazines and anthologies including 30 Under 30 which Joseph O'Connor chose as one of his books of the year for The Irish Times. He received a Masters with first class honours in creative writing from UCD and a BA in fine art painting from LSAD. Now he's working on getting his novel on, and being in charge of HeadStuff.org.
