Having worked for the Department of Education for many years, I decided to change tack and return to student life as a mature student-a very mature student! In 2013 I graduated from LSAD with a BA in Fine Art Painting and now I spend many happy hours drawing and painting.

My practice at the moment explores the natural environment- it’s mystery and the memories held within it. The work is also imbued with references to folklore and it’s close association with nature. The lakes and quiet backwaters that abound in County Limerick inspire me. They are treasure chests of memories and recall the lives of those who have lived along their shores. Used in a practical way for transport, fishing, thatching, electricity and much more, they have also been a source of imagination. Traditions, beliefs and stories found in Irish folklore can be seen to reflect sensitivity to the natural world and this adds to the mystery of the waterways.

My concern is with capturing a sense of mystery rather than depicting a representation of a particular place. The style of painting is as important to me as the image. Each piece is a visual journey-a process in which I investigate how colour, texture and image combine to express my sentiments and ideas.
