Up this week is Illustrator Laura Callaghan from Louth, now living in London. Follow her here @lauracallaghanillustration
Laura is an illustrator originally from Co. Louth, Ireland. She has been living and working in South East London since graduating from an MA in Illustration at Kingston University in 2010. Her work is largely hand painted using watercolour, indian ink and isograph pen, and depicts fearless women in colourful, maximalist environments – images that are ostensibly bright and beautiful but that cultivate some sense of mystery or unease.
As well as undertaking work for clients such as MTV, Nike, Urban Outfitters, Riposte Magazine, and NYLON she regularly creates personal work and self publishes zines. Her first solo show ‘Aspirational’ opened at KK Outlet, London in June this year.
It’s refreshing to see these amazing girl squads depicted in art and makes us want to be part of the gang. These women are strong bold characters reflected in their fashion and behaviour. The attention to the tiniest detail will have you gazing over each piece for quite sometime, noticing little things here and there.
Laura’s Instagram account is a vibrant collection of pattern and colour and bold characters, and it doesn’t go unnoticed with a whopping 113K followers! She has also had work shown in DAZED and Nylon mag amongst others.
