Every fortnight at PodStuff we round up the latest podcast news. This week we’ve got new Irish podcast network The Warren, an Irish horror podcast, and a great podcast newsletter.
The Warren: A New Irish Podcast Network
Award-winning Irish podcasters Julien Clancy, Liam Geraghty and Colette Kinsella have come together to launch a new podcast network: The Warren. The network, home to 6 podcasts initially with more to come, was announced in October, with the official launch party last night in Dublin. The lineup is “a diverse mix of shows on pop culture, wildlife, drama, science and much more”, and includes a number of shows we are big fans of here at HeadStuff – Petrified, Dublin Story Slam, The Critter Shed, Meet Your Maker, How to be Sound and Science Drops! 10 Podcast Lane
Fine, Halloween is over, but we just came across this Irish podcast recounting myths, legends, and tales of terror. Listening for any time of year. Episodes are refreshingly short (usually around 12 mins, with some longer 30-minute episodes) so maybe the perfect listen on a dark winter’s evening commute. The style is a single narrator telling a tale with musical accompaniment – similar in style to something like Aaron Mahnke’s Lore, or Fireside here on the HeadStuff network. Dublin Podcast Festival
Things kick off at the Dublin Podcast Festival next Wednesday (6th November) with The Guilty Feminist in Vicar Street followed by the Totally Football Show on the 8th. Wonderfully Bad Podcast Ideas
There are a lot of podcast newsletters out there (we even did a roundup of them a while back). Rose Eveleth’s is different. As she explains: “Every week, I take a half-baked podcast idea and give it a full pitch treatment, including a logo, a potential host, and possible episodes. That’s it. That’s the whole newsletter.” And it’s delightful. With her own mockups, alongside assorted ideas from social media, ideas range from the ridiculous to the hilarious to the, well, not bad at all.
