Exhibitionist| Dublin’s Metropolis Festival
This weekend the Metropolis Festival, a new indoor music festival, will take place in over 8 arenas on the grounds of Dublin’s RDS. Metropolis will be hosting some of the biggest names in electronic music, performing alongside high-tech visual installations and art displays. There will also be panels and live speakers, and two film screenings in conjunction with Lighthouse Cinema. Dublin’s creative production agency Algorithm will be providing elaborate and cutting-edge visuals for two stages, located in the Shelbourne and the Serpentine Hall.
“We are creating bespoke original content for the musicians and our team of VJs will be mixing the visuals live throughout the weekend. Expect to see some of the most technologically impressive equipment being used to being the audience to a new plateau in terms of syncing sound and vision.”

Cave Paintings is both a conclusion and a beginning to a process of creative cross-pollination between artists and writers. The project has seen ten pairs of contemporary writers and artists working in Dublin today meet up, exchange work and respond to a piece of the other’s art. There have been no limitations on form or content. The project has been as much about the forging of new inter-disciplinary relationships as the final pieces themselves. Artists include Participating artists: Aaron Smyth, Aimee Gallagher, Ann Ensor, Michelle Costello, Stephen Murphy, Ciara O’Brien, Siobhan O’Callaghan, Andrew Hopkins, Danyal Foxe and Clare Marie Ryan.

You Are Here is an exhibition by three emerging artists, Christine Browne, Abigail Denniston and Sarah Edmondson.
A provocative exploration into our current relationship with maps, both old and new, and the way technology allows us to navigate our way around the world based on our current location. We no longer plan a route from A to B, but from ourselves. As every distance is now measured from where we stand, we each become the centre of our individual worlds. A subjective and personal voyage into the art of map making, relishing in the lines, shapes, and scale of this picturesque language that we have depended on for centuries. A language that never claimed to be objective, but is often (mis)interpreted as such.

Patricia Fitzgerald is a Mandala artist based in Dublin. Mandala can be loosely translated to mean circle but the Mandala is far more than just a simple shape. It embodies wholeness, representing the structure of life itself, a cosmic diagram that shows us our relatedness to the infinite, that which extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds. It embodies a journey deep into the self and out again to the infinite.

Lived Lives | A Pavee Perspective, exhibition at Pavee Point Traveller & Roma Centre, Dublin

Lived Lives: A Pavee Perspective, is an experiential art installation which creates new knowledge and understanding around suicide among Travellers. ‘Lived Lives’ is an art science collaboration developed by artist Dr. Seamus McGuinness and Prof Kevin Malone with 104 Irish families bereaved by Suicide. This iteration of the exhibition follows work in consultation with Traveller Leaders and Youth earlier this year. The exhibition has been realised in partnership with Pavee Point Traveller and Roma Centre with funding support from the Wellcome Trust. Actor and screenwriter John Connors (Love / Hate) will formally open the exhibition. Helen Hutchinson, poet will also perform a reading during the opening.

John Behan and Ger Sweeney at the Hamilton Gallery, Sligo

Icons and Inscapes is an exhibition of bronze sculptures by John Behan and paintings by Ger Sweeney. As the sculptor in this show, John Behan exhibits famine ships and boats with voyage as the theme. They symbolise the journey of life in the human collective sense as life is viewed as a journey from birth to death. The impulse is engendered by a dialogue within the artist, the internal inscape from where creativity flows. Painting for Ger Sweeney is a dialogue and an enquiry; themes recur, evolve and become points of departure. A recurring narrative in Sweeney’s work is a sense of landscape, or rather a distilled memory or echo, to be explored through the process of painting and more recently an abstracted form or figure motif has become apparent.

Riverbank Arts Centre presents Inside Out, a new exhibition of work by ceramic sculptor Isobel Egan. Isobel has developed this series of wall mounted ceramic sculptures evoking themes of space, stillness and containment. Her aim through the sculptures is to pique the curiosity of the viewer and invite them to explore initially hidden aspects of the pieces.
Inspired by space and architecture, she works with porcelain as the intrinsic characteristics of the material, its translucence and delicate paper-like quality enables the realisation of her concepts.
Isobel’s work has been described as strong, humble and extremely fragile. Her sculptural pieces join the simplicity of form to the complexity of an inner perspective or space.
Join us for the launch of Inside Out, which will be opened by Dr. Audrey Whitty, Ph.D. who has been Keeper of the Art and Industrial Division (Decorative Arts and History), National Museum of Ireland since January 2015.

Construct is the 2015 joint annual touring exhibition drawn from the public art collections of the Office of Public Works (OPW) and the Department of Finance and Personnel (DFP) of Northern Ireland. It features an eclectic mixture of print, painting, drawing and three-dimensional works by Irish and Northern Irish based artists. The exhibition, which includes 29 artworks drawn from the public art collections north and south of the border, was selected by eleven young curators from the Ulster University in Belfast, Co Antrim.

In Darkness Let Me Dwell | Group Show at Solstice, Co.Meath

Solstice Arts Centre, Railway Street, Navan, Co.Meath
The title of this exhibition is taken from a through-composed lute song by early baroque composer John Dowland (c.1610). The musical form implies a deep melancholia, originally appearing in the 1606 song collection Funeral Teares by John Coprario. A flourishing sorrow is intricately formulated by musical dissonance and harmonic instability of which there is no concluding resolution. In Homer’s Odysseus flitting purposeless spirits inhabit the Asphodel meadows. ‘In Darkness let me Dwell’ similarly voyages through contemporary shadowlands, and encounters within, inferring a modern, isolated habituation.
