PODCAST OF THE WEEK

  • Olympipod

Olympipod is the Olympics podcast you definitely need to be listening to right now. Brought to you by self-described “below-average international athlete Chris O’Reilly and above-average international nonathlete Ruth Fitzpatrick”, this podcast is a love letter to all things weird and wonderful in the world’s greatest sporting competition.

The show takes one Olympic Games per episode, starting with Athens in 1896, and goes through the highs and lows of each game, with plenty of unusual detours along the way. Ruth and Chris are frequently joined by special guests, such as comedian David O’Doherty and Olympic diving finalist Oliver Dingley, who provide their own insights and stand out moments to each competition. It is not only a fun and engaging listen, but is extremely well researched and full of weird trivia and fascinating backstories.

Ultimately, though, it’s the absolutely infectious enthusiasm for all things Olympics that makes the show stand out. Fittingly, the series had gone as far as Tokyo, 1964 when it was interrupted by, well, Tokyo 2020. So, rather than sit on their Olympic laurels, Ruth and Chris are releasing daily Olympics updates. The perfect companion to what is looking like a very successful Olympics for Ireland so far. Listen on Apple or Spotify

Lore’s Aaron Mahnke Launches new show: Bridgewater

Aaron Mahnke, the creator of the hit supernatural folklore podcast Lore has launched a new supernatural audio drama Bridgewater.

Bridgewater is the story of folklore professor Jeremy Bradshaw, who is pulled into the mysterious 1980 disappearance of his police officer father, Thomas, by new evidence that threatens to upend decades of certainty.

The new audio drama stars a host of famous faces including Misha Collins (Supernatural), Nathan Fillion (Firefly), Melissa Ponzio (Teen Wolf) and many more.

Episode one and two will be available to stream wherever you get your podcasts from August 6th and we are very much looking forward to seeing where the show goes.

Call Her Daddy has gone Spotify Exclusive

The popular feminist podcast Call Her Daddy has officially relaunched as a Spotify Exclusive after a jaw-dropping $60 million deal for the show to be available exclusively on the streaming juggernaut!

After losing a host to the show’s migration, it is now hosted solely by Alex Cooper (referred to affectionately by fans as Father Cooper) and has grown into a global phenomenon by creating a judgment-free zone that promotes sexual freedom and personal empowerment. New episodes of the podcast are released on a weekly basis every Wednesday.

This deal is the latest in a long line of popular podcasts that Spotify has purchased to build up their library of exclusive titles in order to compete with other large podcast services that offer original content exclusive for all its listeners. Proving that giant streaming services are clearly willing to shell out the big bucks to support the podcast industry and creators at long last.

We’ll back back next week with more podcast news. In the meantime, we have plenty more articles on our site to keep you entertained!
